Jesus, the Light of the World

In the Bible (New International Version), Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12

When Jesus called Himself “the light,” He was using a picture everyone can understand. Light helps us see where we are going. It shows the truth and drives away fear. In the same way, Jesus helps people see what is right and good. He shows us the way to God.

The Bible often uses darkness to describe confusion, sin, or sadness. Without light, we stumble and cannot see clearly. But when we come to Jesus—when we learn from Him and trust Him—He brings peace, forgiveness, and purpose. His words help us make wise choices and love others.

In autumn, the days grow shorter and the nights feel longer. That makes Jesus’ promise even more special: He shines in our hearts every day, even when life feels dark. If you feel lost or worried, you can simply pray, “Jesus, please be my light. Show me the way.” He hears you.
